Title: PR Knot in 130lb Tuf XP
Post by: David Sharples on August 16, 2008, 12:27:03 AM
Has anyone used this knot with this line? It looks really chunky when you tie it, bit worried the braid won't bite into the mono. Going to use Fisherman Stealth or Varivas Shock Leader as its softer to get more bite.

It's to fish big stickbaits like bigfoots, last time I ran a heavy twisted leader and I think some fish spooked as they sort of rushed up and stopped rather than attacked the lure...

David, 130lb TF XP in a PR knot on a really heavy leader is going to be a problem, I think. It will likely get caught on the stripper a fair bit and eventually, you wipe the stripper guide out.

Hey Brandon good to have you back! Hope we're going to see a trip report from you?

Do you reckon better off with a bimini/twisted arrangement? I'm keen to have the leader ending in single strand to fish sinking stickbaits...

David, if you want to use 130lb and a PR knot, go with Varivas GT and perhaps no more than 170lb mono leader. I use a 200lb mono leader in the YGK Gailis which is ok but I am going to go back to 170lb. You can always attach a bite leader to the end if need be but really, I wouldn't wory abotut his unless you're chasing huge GTs.

A bimimi/twisted leader is fine. It is only when using stickbaits in very clear water that I think it is advantageous to use a single strand leader. You could of course simply put a single strand bite leader onto the end of a twisted leader.

I'll get around to a trip report sometime!  ;)

So what size twisted leader do you use with 130 varivas Brandon?
