I noticed in a Fishing World article about jigging the 3 kings NZ with the Mr Mogi's 'grouper boys' that their leader knots looked a bit different. They weren't uni's or centauri's, but looked like a 10mm plus long length of hitches. anyone know about that knot?
-
got an idea of what you talking about but dont get the mag can you post a pic or web page to look at .i use the same system i think
cheers mark

What No/date 'Fishing World' was it in Sam?
-
I assume this is the knot to the swivel/split ring end. Basically an inch or so of alternating half hitches finished off with a 5 turn clinch to prevent slipping.
-
i'll have a look what episode it was but it was a while back. Yeah thats the one - it was leader to swivel/ring at the jig. The had chaffing tube at the loop and then it looked like a series of half hitches.
-
Hi Sam. The JM White Island "Heavy Metal" video with Chris Wong has a great instruction segment on that knot.
-
righto thanks, i'll try to track it down
-
Sam the knot is simply 1" of alternating half hitches with the tag end burnt into a ball.
the leader is passed through the solid ring twice with chafe tube around it
very easy to do and looks great

Good pics Andre, but shouldn't you be still celebrating a 'Sharks' win in the Currie Cup ;D
-
I didn't see any of the grouper boys using that knot in a week
-
That was a short report ;) ;D, welcome back mate, hope you had a good week ;D
-
give me time! :D

Too right Bun.... but truth be told, I was actually more stoked that we didn't lose against the bloody Blue Bulls than the fact that we won.... was more a relief than a celebration!!
Was in London at the time for business, but knocked back a bunch of Snake Bites and Rum and Cokes with some mates and had a huge fire in the back yard in celebration.....
Go Sharks!!! ;D ;D

Relief all right, the last 5 minutes were Deja vue ::)

The Knot was Mistaken as Mogi's knot, infact it is from the Jigging Master Boys. Passing twice through the ring twice works good, especially when sleeved with 200lb dacron, or "knot sleve".
-
It was in Fishing World august 2008. pg 16 Definitely Mogi and friends in the story. Looks like the knot you guys are mentioning is the one in the story
-
Sam, sorry if I sound like a twat, but I was on that trip(cover shot august), and the trip before with Mogi. The Jigging Master boys and Mogi's boys use different connections, both of which have their pros and cons. Sean the author hasn't fished with the Jigging Master boys, he learned the connection in NZ.
Sean has another article coming out soon about the Coral sea, keep an eye out for it.
Cheers, Shane.

all good. I was surprised to see that the only pics of overheads were of Torsas and quite wide ones too. Seems like those guys rate torsas and don't necesarily mind using heavier/wider reels either - I line capacity is an issue when using PE8-10+
