Post by: Dave Schmidt on November 20, 2008, 11:06:36 PM
Hey guys im kinda new to this forum and the whole popping scene. I thought i would put up some pics of a recent land based trip i had. I have never caught any GT's to speak of so i was stoked with the trip i had cause i found out just what an incredible fish the GT is and how hard they pull. Now im pretty muched hooked on the whole popping style of fishing and am spending way too much money... but its all good ;D

Congrats on your first GTs Dave and welcome to the worldwide club of enthusiasts who all spend far too much time and money chasing these thugs - and love every minute of it!

Cheers

Hi Dave,
You've done well from the oysters mate. I hate that spot - its very frustrating and I've lost a bit of blood there too.

Anyway, welcome to the addiction  ;D

are these GT's caught a night. I never thought GT can be caught a night how does the fish see the lure when popping? hope this is not a dumb question.

Hi Marnie,

Not fished for GT at night but predatory freshwater fish will take a surface bait in the dark (muskie fishermen in north America do this all the time). From a fish's perspective there is the noise of the splash and, from beneath the surface, a lure will be outlined against the sky. I know of muskie fishermen who paint all their lures solid black - better outline.

Cheers

Colin

Hey kasey yeah i class myself as pretty fortunate to land fish of that size from oysters. It could be quite a nasty place if things didnt go the anglers way! It would only take a good bust up and end up on your ass and the sharp oyster shells would make short work of your behind!! Are you a local in the area?? Ill be back on boxing day to give it another crack
