While casting poppers two weeks ago I had
five bad wind knots in 1/2 hour, the only thing different from normal was a new Stella 10k fitted with two of the supplied spool washers to give a tapered casting angle on the spool lay . I never had a problem before so I had to cut some line off [new Ultra Jigman, OUCH ]
, take off the extra washers and try again!
Yesterday I removed the two spool washers I had put on the reel to give a 'casting' tapered lay,
after one hour of solid casting I did not have one wind knot 
.
The theory of only mono on a tapered lay could be right, I won't be trying it with braid again
