Shimano Stella 10000

Seen one of these on eBay thinking of getting it for plugging for GT's.
What is the line capacity and will it be suitable for what I want it for.

'Plugging for GT's' is quite a broad statement  8)

Need a bit more information for a proper assessment. Are you refering to the 10000SW? And what type of GT fishing are you planning on doing?

The 10000FA, the previous version to the SW, is a high speed reel, good for popping. It is essentially the high speed equivalent of the 20000FA but it has significantly lower line capacity.

Most people I know who have used a 10000FA for GT popping have put a 20000 spool on it (the spools are interchangeable on those two sizes).

I am not sure exactly how much line I would get on my 10000FA spool fishing say 80 or 100lb but I don't think it would be enough, personally. A bust of or two and you could start running quite low on line.

You get around 170m of PE8 onto it. The best spool for popping for the old FA was the Shimano Yumeya 10000D or 16000D spool as these had significantly more capacity but not as much as a 20000 which is excessive unless you are fishing for monster class GTs
If it swims; I want to catch it!

The 10K FA spool is fine for PE8/80lb.

Just came across this Nomad vid which might be relevant. Granted he's not punching a long cast out...

"The above video shows Damon Olsen using the Ripple FisherFSGT79H on a GT around 30kg at Elusive Reef. It is being fished on a Stella 10000FA reel with a 20000FA spool, with Varivas GT Max 130lb braid, and around 15kg of drag".

The reels I've seen only say Stella 10000 on the spool does this mean that they are old reels. I'm not too bothered on the age only that they are in good nick and will do the job.
Haven't seen any advertised that say they are 10000fa

The old 2001 Stella 10000FA can fit 300m of PE5 UltraJigman line. This reel also can fit the 16000 spool (which came as spare spool with 2001 SW20000PG) with 300m of PE6 GT Avani line. As for the 20000PG spool, it can fit ~340m of UltraJigman PE8.

In term of weight, 10000FA is as heavy as 2008 Stella SW18000XG.

p/s in the process searching for the old SOM 16k

cheers
