Better Braid JB Hollow or JB Solid
June 03, 2011, 04:05:43 AM
Which is the better braid to use if tying leaders with a PR knot and not splicing - the JB Hollow or the JB Solid?
I see Nomads utilise and suggest the JB Hollow!
What would the difference is use be?
I understand that the JB Hollow is softer would this be better for casting?

I think the solid is better.
If you want to splice, then the Hollow is the way to go (note: 80lb solid can be spliced but it's difficult!).
Nomad uses Hollow because they can easily splice lines together after a reefing. No doubt, either way it's an awesome braided line.

I heard that tying friction knots in hollow is just as good as when you tie it in solid. Anyone know this to be true? And when comparing the jb solid and hollow, the hollow is a higher strand product which means it is stronger than the equivalent size solid?

I Tried 80lb hollow, it is strong an durable but found it does not cast as well as round braids. With any wind around the flat braid seemed to catch it more which took distance of the cast.

Thanks for all the info guys.
I used the 60lb JB hollow and found that it casts better than the Tufline XP 65lb.

Craig, how did you go splicing the 60lb? I seriously struggled to splice the 130lb hollow, and since that's the primary advantage of the hollow I personally go the solid every day of the week, interested to hear your thoughts.
