George, John, Ben, Hing and myself jump onboard Live Line Charter which is operated by first class captain Capt Mike in Wilmington North Carolina.
The ocean was flat and we ran 32 knots to the south without getting wet.
The action was slow in the morning, probably because of the water
temperature and current.
After a couple of drifts we got the AJs and Almacos fired up but no big donkeys. We moved around and George found the fish of the day over some
rough bottom, a 30 plus lbs black belly Gag Grouper. This was a great fish
on jig this time of the year.
We also had 3 more Scamps/Yellow Mouth Grouper. We drifted by some weeds
and started bailing Mahi on top water.
The deck got bloody after putting 20 Mahis in the box for dinner.
Continued working the jigs and found more nice Almacos. Later in
the afternoon we finally had a quad hook up and landed Almacos/Albies and
AJs.
John landed a nice 12 lb Black fin on the last drift to add to the species
list and cooler. It always feels good to be on the water and looking
forward to another trip.
