Jewell Reef Ultimate Adventure 29 Oct 2011:
Damon:- Another big day at Jewell... We had some hectic action on GTs at the first reef we stopped at, with Ben landing a nice 30kg GT to start the day. That session lasted for maybe an hour of hot action, with GTs, bluefin and red bass nailing poppers. We moved north to the shallows and started another great session, with long nose emperor, red bass, coral trout, maori wrasse, yellow lip big eys, GTs, long toms and a whole host of other species on the light gear. Fishing in the shallows for the next few hours saw us land over 30 fish, and have some amazing action. The afternoon session was a little slow until we moved to the outside edge of the reef late in the day, and had a hectic half hour session on the GTs and red bass. All up it was another quality day of fishing at Jewell reef, with over 50 fish landed and 15 gts mixed in with a heap of variety.
John: Today we travelled further north and started fishing the outside edge with a couple of fish straight off the bat things were looking positive for the day ahead, and wow did it deliver first pulling up on a nice looking edge a Mackerel of about 25kg launched itself at least 20ft into the air right next to the boat eating the popper on the way up and landing about 5m from the motor, what was amazing was I didn't see the bite but heard the guys gasping as I turned around the Macky was falling from the sky like a missile !! It gets better though today we had one angler (Michael) land 4 Maori Wrasse from 5kg to 40kg with one around 18kg caught on the light tackle in 2m of water a highlight, the GT fishing was a little quiet today but with a highlight reel like these it's all good !!
