Be cautious of items being offered on Facebook
September 13, 2014, 06:12:35 PM
Guys, some of you would be aware of this but this is to advise of a new modus operandi by fraudsters operating through facebook.

What these guys are doing is setting up a page and spending quite some effort into making it look legit. There will be a lot of photos of equipment as well as their price list. They also go to quite some effort to build a strong friend network. What they cannot hide though is that their page has only been in existence for a very short time. They then post equipment up for sale (both new and second hand) at amazing prices. When you get in contact with them, the payment will usually be requested through Western Union. They will even offer you pay half first and then half on receipt.

You will never see the equipment as it will never arrive. I think the best way to approach these is that something that looks too good to be true will almost certainly prove to be just that.

Approach with extreme caution a seller who has no proven history.

If it swims; I want to catch it!

Western Union is a very shaky way to transfer money.  PayPal is much safer.

Good warning that too easily gets forgotten.

If it's too good to be true...it probably is.
