Bugatti Reef 09/2008
October 07, 2008, 11:24:12 PM
Hi all,

Just thought I'd post a few pics from my trip with Nomad. A last minute change due to lack of action at Marion had the Nomad mothership relocated to Bugatti Reef.

GTs were the dominant catch, with 120+ fish landed during our week, pretty good given a 1/3 of the boat were jigging enthusiasts and weren't specifically targeting GTs.

Even my wife had a great time, and was well looked after by the crew -even casting for her when required-, ensuring she didn't miss out on the action.

Even though I never landed any 'big' fish, my arms were aching from the 'teenagers'.  Biggest GTs landed on the trip were up to 30kg, with some monsters raised but not hooked. Hope you enjoy the pics.  ;D

Thank you Damon, Tim and the crew!

-Eric

P.s. if anyone in these photos lurks on this board and wants their photo taken down let me know!

great post, Eric.
Those big reefies - were they caught at Bugatti and were they jig or popper captures? I've never seen a maori wrasse there.
btw, were you on the same week as Stewart Ward from the UK?
If it swims; I want to catch it!

Brandon,

We were at Bugatti the whole week, i'm not sure exactly when they relocated from Marion, but it was before I got there.

The emperor, chinamen, and maori wrasse were jigging captures on the outter edge of the Bugatti reef complex I believe.

The cod was taken popping within the complex.

I don't think there was anyone named Stewart onboard during my week.

My mistake Jay, thanks for the correction... I was under the ( misguided ) preconception that all your "Grouper" species were lumped together under "Coral Trout", hence the misidentification...Should have known better! ;D
Thanks for clearing that up... awesome looking fish, the markings are insane... hows the fight on those compared to a Coral Trout? Are they as good eating?

Cheers

Great pics, great fish, great weather!  Nice one, Pick for me would be the Maori Wrasse.  What a ripper.

Flowery Cod fight OK when compared to any of the other Cods, but they're not real flash in the fry-pan.  Oily, strong flavoured meat.  Much better let go to fight again.

cheers,
