SALPA / Alor May Trip
June 01, 2009, 09:43:55 PM
Hi Guys,

Got back last week from a 4 day trip to Alor Indonesia.
This trip, quantity was lacking. Everyone had to work hard.
Biggest GT this time round was 40kg.
Enjoy the pics.

Hi Andy,

Yes we tried jigging and got those small doggies, nothing big this time except the thrasher.
There was a take by a suspected huge one but the absence of a bite leader saw him biting through 200lbs single strand.

Nice photos Ah Gu, looks like a pretty top spot.  My geography isn't great as far as SALPA/Alor goes but we read a lot about the Indonesian commercial fisherman coming illegally to Australian waters to fish - from those photos it seems the waters in those parts aren't very overfished at all?  Is that right?

That Thresher is a wild critter - thought it may have been  small Mako from the head shot.  Was it pulled from very deep?

The thrasher is a beauty, great photo's too. There are definitely some big fish lurking on those points, on a couple of occasions there I have been buried by some very powerful fish.

Hi Travis,
Alor is 1 of the few places in Indonesia that is spared from heavy commercial fishing pressure and free from dynamite fishing.

The thresher shark was hooked at about 50m of water and it dived to as deep as 250metres taking with it around 350metres of line. Angler fished with around 13kg drag, any lighter and I think he may have been spooled.
