Zenaq Trevally 83-5
March 02, 2010, 06:36:47 PM
Hi fellas,

Have been reading this forum for a bit now and thinking of getting into the popping arena. One of the rods that caught my eye, is the Zenaq Fokeeto Trevally 83-5. Has a bit of length to it and is rated to 140gm max lure. The length helps when i'm fishing the maldives or local waters where distance matters. Would like to know how it performs as a chugger or stickbait rod and its fighting chraracteristics. What are the optimum lure weight, line and drag for this rod? I'm 5'9" about 170lbs, fairly fit, although i've got an iffy lower back. Feedbacks mucho' appreciated.

Hi Samuel

The Zenaq FC83-5 is a very nice mid-weight GT rod for 50-60lb braid. As you mention, the length is great for locations where distance is important. While it's max cast weight is 140g, it is ideally suited to poppers with larger cup faces in the 80-120g range, as it lacks tip stiffness to make the larger lures bloop really hard. On the other hand, the more supple tip works well with a variety of stickbaits.

Hope this helps
