Jewell Reef 2 Nov 2010
November 03, 2010, 03:12:13 PM
Chris:- Today the plan was to move to the south western tip of Jewell reef to hunt down some GTs. Plenty of bait and plenty of GTs but they were in that non feeding, playing with lures mood which made for a little bit of frustration. So in the end we decided to move into the shallows to play with the light tackle. We caught red bass, trigger fish, mackerel, jobfish, nice coral trout, emperors which made for an eventful day.

Damon:- Went in search of GT madness today, but the GTs did not want to play. We found fusiliers by the acre, and plenty of GTs willing to look at our lures, but eventually got sick of watching the GTs watch us and left to find some action in the shallows. We landed 4 GTs between 18-25kg, but they were not in the mood, and there are plenty of other options to check out. The red bass were in plagues in the shallows, along with long nose and yellow lip emperor. We caught about 30 nice fish in 2hrs in the shallows and then went for a troll, which produced a big bustoff and a pulled hook. The afternoon finished off with a crazy jigging session where the sharks won the day, and we landed only 2 big green jobfish. We were thoroughly beaten by the sharks, and went home for a beer on the top deck to watch the sun set. A very good day, with plenty of variety, but the excellent action in the shallows made the day.
