Glanville:- Started our first day at Diamond islets just after mid day and with a bunch of keen anglers we set off fishing, we stopped at the first spot for a jig session and were a little unlucky considering the amount of fish showing up on the sounder and the strong current which the doggies usually love, we hooked a few fish but were in the end beaten by sharks, we moved to the north eastern point in hope for a big fish in the late afternoon and that exactly what we got but it ended in tears as tore line off the reel at an alarming rate before it buried itself into the reef.
Alex- It was good to finally put in a decent days fishing at diamond. My guys today were keen to do a bit of popping around the reef edges to start with. We had some good action early on with about 6gts hitting our lures within 5 minutes. We had 2 double hook-ups but a few pulled hooks and a nice bust off we only managed to boat 2. we had a few more hits and a couple of nice red bass and bluefin trevally. Some of the best action we had was on the yellowfin. I spied a big flock of birds doing the honey bee impression and there were some nice tuna hanging around. We missed some really nice fish to around 35-40kg but they just pulled the hooks and even a few hit so hard that the braid just popped. We ended having a great session on the tuna boating about 10 and missing heaps more. Tomorrow im keen to show these guys what diamond is all about and watch them get smashed by some monster hounds.
Saltaire: First day at dimond today and I tell you what it was great to
finally get some lures in the water. We started of jigging for a doogie on some very likely looking ground that have produced dogtooth in numbers before. All the signs were there with heaps of activity showing on the sounder. Not much was happening so we tried a troll to se if we could entice them to become more active. We trolled over the same spot we were just jigging and got a triple hook up on doggies. We managed to land 1 that was around the 16kg mark. It was then time to chase a marlin or a sail fish within 20 mins of the lines in the water we hooked a sailfish and boated a 10kg yellow fin tuna. After that things slowed down abit hooking the odd fish here and there on the troll. All in all a great day out on the water considering the late start to the day.
