Stella 30k for stick baits?
January 19, 2015, 01:37:39 AM
Obviously this is not an idea for everyday use. There is only one scenario where I would even try this.  It wouldn't even invlove GT fishing.  However, I know I could find a good response in this forum. This is more of me just wondering and thought I would ask....

We know that the 30k is low gear just like the 20. However it picks up 52" of line like an 18K (51"). So would this allow for proper presentation of stick baits?

Again, just wondering. Since I can't walk outside right now and try it, I thought I would ask the board. 99% of the time, I wouldn't even think to worry about it... but I do stupid **** sometimes  ;D

Thanks in advance

Not a "stupid" question at all!  Yes, it would allow you to work stickbaits nearly the same because of the similar line pickup.   I wish manufacturers would state whether the line pickup (and drag ratings) were at full spool, half spool or empty.

Hi Robert,

I've used the 30K for tuna fishing with Stickbaits and it was great (albeit a touch heavy)!

The answer you are looking for is yes!

Are you tuna fishing? If so, where?

Thanks, Luke.  I appreciate it.  I am going to be in Panama at the end of March.  I might make NC before, but that is not certain.  However, this isn't even for tuna.  I have faith in my bigger Daiwas and the drag they have to go against them.
However in Panama, there are some other species with pointy noses that I would love to get into.  It for some reason we spot one feeding around the bait balls on YFT/Bonita then I would love to try my luck casting to them.  Hell, I might even do it without seeing them.   Lots of Posiedon's bigger children lurking down there.  So I have some submarine's to throw courtesy of Merv at Strategic.  Now the drag on my 30K is less than the Dogfight 7K and Expedition 8K, but line capacity is my only fear.  That motor can strip you down really quick.  I have caught a few with my 30ks but never casting to them, so I just wanted confirmation on stickbait action.

Thanks again for the input.  I really appreciate it.  Oh and thanks to the board for allowing me to ask about a non gt subject.
