Nick:- Brandon, George and Rob were ready to go this morning after their warm up session yesterday. The rain had disappeared but the wind had crept up a little unfortunately. We set off and had a hard time getting to our first spot this morning - on arrival George had a fish in the boat on the first drift and saw a few more always good to start the day like that! As the day progressed the tide started to slow and things were a little bumpy so we decided to kill a little time and throw some light tackle around and we managed to find the birthplace of every single Spanish flag on the entire barrier reef. Rob managed to hook up on a nice trout but with two flicks of his tail he was gone in his hole. After about 40 minutes we started to see a little bit of run out which was our signal to start looking for GTs again. Brandon was using a prototype stickbait today made by full scale and he managed to raise a lot of fish with it today and came out tops with 5 fish. The fish around the reef have been feeding a little weird but have been unusually strong with a 20 kilo fish punching well above his weight. George managed to donate a popper to a good size Spanish today along with another one he had teased to skyrocket twice before managing to get his lure back safely. Another great day with 11 GTs boated, two nice Soanish and too many Spanish flags.
Glanville:- I started off the day with 3 GT virgins on my boat....well lets just say that it didn't stay that way for long before Joe had the first fish in the boat followed by a cracker of a fish that Stephen managed to bring to the boat a fish just short of 40kg with a FL 119 G 99. After a short celebration we got straight back to it and Allen had his first fish under the belt job done. But we were only just getting started.....back for another drift and another bent rod, excellent start to the day, things tapered off a little as the tide changed but somehow Stephen managed to get stuck to another fish of 40kg FL 121 G 95...beleive it or not but his first 2 GT he ever caught were both around the 40kg mark awesome effort, the afternoon things seemed to slow down on the GT front but we still managed to get a couple of mackerel and a few other odds and ends.
Peter: With conditions looking favourable first thing this morning I set
out with David, Bernard and Stewart. We didn't venture far before we managed to come across some GT action where David and Stewart both claimed a nice GT within the first hour of the morning. With the turn of the tide starting the fish started to slow down a little seeing the odd 1 here and there.
Once the tide turned the ball started to slowly roll again. With just enough water to get into an awesome blue hole, David managed to catch a nice GT that weighed in at 30kg. It was an awesome sight to watch him battle the fish in the toughest terrain possible, top effort. By the end of the day we boated 7 nice size GTs and a good size Flowery cod that came out unexpectedly.
Johnny Dory: This morning I had Kamikaze Ken and the Dynamic Brazilian Duo of Marcio and Cezar frothing at the bit for some GT action and we were not disappointed, right from the get go we had action aplenty with Fusiliers being herded up it wasn't long before before the guys landed a couple around the 20kg mark, shortly after Marcio landed a really nice fish of 35kg which got everyone on the boat excited, an amazing morning of fishing was unfolding with 10 GT in the boat by 10am and the tide still running nicely things were looking peachy!! Next spot it only took 1 cast to raise a pack attack on Cezars popper which they all somehow missed, but not to be outdone Ken also had the pack attack with a really big fish being outrun at last second by a modest 15kg model, story of his life Ken kept telling me!!
After the tide turned the bite slowed down for the afternoon but a nice spanish Mackeral and Flowery Cod and a couple more G Bangers topped off a great day fishing. With 15 GT for the day and 9 of them going to Marcio, everybody was keen for a beer to celebrate.
