While I was in the US fishing for the Bluefin with Sami and the boyz, we had a trip running with Allan Stanton and David De Kock who did a weekend trip down to the Hallaniyat islands. The guys arrived at the mainland villa and transfered across to the island to fish a couple of days. The weather was great on the first day but became a bit rough and luckily we were still able to fish. The guys had some awesome fishing and caught a huge variety of fish including GTs, Blackfin Trevally, Yellow Dot Trevally, Black trevally, AJs, bonito, longtail tuna (Northern Bluefin), Emperor, and a few other fish. The guys had a few monster GTs come up but did not manage to hook any of the big girls up but still had a couple of good fish. The jigging is also starting to pick up and a few AJs were landed. The guys were fishing both heavy popping gear and also light spinning gear for smaller gamefish.
Amazingly David landed a milkfish on spinning gear and a lure! The fish was hooked in the mouth, still not sure if this was just coincidence or the fish took the lure? We have caught them on fly in Hallaniyat up to 20kgs but on lure??? Must have thought it was one beeeg piece if algae!
Its looking awesome for the end of the season and with another boat coming into the operation we look forward to a good few monster fish and hopefully some good weather!! I'm heading for Japan for the Popping and Jigging show this weekend so hopefully we will have a few new toyz to try out on our trip next week to the islands. Hit it!!
Cheers,
Nick
