i need your help on setting my jigging gear .

i am looking into buying a new outfit which i am looking at jm rod
to match my stella 20000 which i have it (waiting to be wet).
but which line should i get for my 20000 reel.

i know there is lot of different brand,s out there .
eg. ygk , varivas , tuff , etc .

also which pe should i get pe6 or pe8 ???
and how much line do i need to fill the spool up .

let you know that i have the varivas gt smp pe8 (120lb) so is that okay to jig with or not ???

as i have jigged once on nomad for the doggies with my gt line  :-X ;D but i didn,t get a chance to hook one up  :-\ too busy looking for GT  ;D ;D

so now i am thinking about coming over to perth to do some samon jigging fishing .
but i would to use for another trip like coral sea , and my local area as well .

please share your thought,s to me on what you think is the best .

Hi Mick,
PE6 (80lb) is adequate for Samson Jigging. You can go  up to PE8 (100lb+) if you like for the extra security, but I find you don't need it. Samsons do not have as much stamina as an AJ or YTK  :P

It may be better to fill the spool completely with braid, in case that big dogtooth comes along/you get busted up and lose alot of line (which I find happens more frequently jigging  :-\).

All those brands are good - you don't need very expensive thin line for jigging as much as you do for popping. Anything that you are confident with and suits your budget - from expensive (Varivas 10x10) to cheap (PowerPro) will do the job well.

Look like the ygk will do the job cos i was thinking on the varivas

another question  on the leader . which lb is the best for jigging .
i know it got to be single leader not twisted leader . so do i have
to get NLYON or FLUOROCARBON leader ??

ANOTHER ONE Grin . i would like to know which jig work the better .
there are a lot of jig,s to choose from . but which one work the
better long or short or big plastic or all of them ?? and also
what it the best weight to use ??

       thank,s for the help,s

Hi Mick,
Personally I don't see much difference between nylon and flourocarbon once you get past 60/70lb and start jigging in 80+m.

And which jig works best? If we knew the answer to that, there would only be only 1 jig sold on the market, instead of the huge plethora currently available  :D :D

As a rule of thumb, you get what you pay for...
And different species prefer different jigs...
And different jigs have different actions...
And require different crankings...

Big can of worms  :o
