SHOPS, where to buy
April 18, 2015, 06:42:09 PM
I have found this forum and other social media pages helpful in discovering stores where we can all purchase our top water products, mainly the top of the line brands and sought after lures.
Would it be possible to name and share the stores on this forum? Is this bad form? not possible due to sponsorship reasons? or are we just reluctant to do so?
I only ask as I keep discovering new stores world wide who stock the gear we are all looking for and I think it might be useful if there was one spot we could refer to. If this is not a good idea or has already been done then ok.

Hi Steven, thanks for joining!

"Would it be possible to name and share the stores on this forum? Not possible due to sponsorship reasons?"

Yes, we do have sponsors and currently two of them sell tackle; namely Ocean Active and Saltywater Tackle. We have no problem with members of the site sharing their experience with finding hard to find products etc. at alternative stores. Our sponsors have kept this forum; it's upkeep and register etc. active for the past 7 years. This website is basically genesis of world-wide popping and jigging discussion and remains, still the most potent resource because of them. Without their help, the founders of the site simply don't have the financial ability or time to do so. So, in short, we encourage everyone to check out the forum sponsors; failing that, feel free to discuss alternative supply from other shops.

I'll give you a short example: Lets say you are European and want to grab an item from the US but the shipping costs, given your region are undeniably preventative (they aren't) for this particular bulky (or otherwise) item. As such, you find it closer to home for a much cheaper total (for instance). Before you go ahead and order the cheaper option; send an email to Jon/Nick or Sami/Ray/Paul and say where you heard about them and see if they can serve you better regarding the shipping. My bet is that they would sort you out and offer you more than you intended in the way of service or further products and advice. If they can't help you; go ahead and grab it from the other place and share your experience with us so that we can be better informed. In this situation, the sponsor was given a run for their money and couldn't help therefore another process is worth a mention...

To all our members, we would like to advise on our policy of posting links to other websites other than our sponsor/advertisers. We will not be prohibiting links to other websites where the item being linked is not available, out of stock or not shippable from our sponsors. That said, we also want to make it clear that we will not tolerate behavior that verges on spamming. In a nutshell, if you want to advertise on this forum, please do it the right way and become a sponsor/advertiser. If in doubt, please contact myself or Brandon.

So use your own discretion but be kind to the folks that help us make this place stay online!

Thanks mate :)

Well put Amr

In all honesty, I source a lot of my stuff from both OA and Saltywater anyway so they're both an excellent starting point.

Carpenter Australia is also an excellent source for my favourite rods and lures.

What I've found is that given the specialised nature of this type of fishing what is really important is establishing a relationship with a retailer rather than just looking for the cheapest. In the long run it benefits both parties.

Regards,

Trev

I know quite a few "rich fishermen".

I don't know any "fishermen, that are rich".

Support those that support and further the passion that we all enjoy and it will continue to better the sport on the whole. We are a very small group.

I see many NEW shops pop up selling the same product lines that the others do. Once someone paves the road, it is very easy for someone else to drive down it.

I do not mean that you should only support those that sell super high end or travel to the ends of the earth. Business is business and competition is typically good for everyone. Yet, out of respect to those on this forum that keep the lights on, I personally feel the topics should stay on point unless you have direct knowledge of other suitable products.

On the whole, this forum stays true to that and is one of the reasons I enjoy it.

Firstly, this is an open forum where you can discuss topics at your leisure and hear opinions from all sides of the fence... it's all there written down to compare! There is enough knowledge and information here than you will find anywhere combined. Please enjoy!.

I think simply by means of showing transparency - that this benefits all members. There is no point censoring the content; as at the end of the day, this only punishes the members and defeats our true purpose of being the ultimate GT resource.

This is a goal, dear to my heart, that I know we have well and truly kicked out of the park over the years.

There are very few occasions where we must exercise discretion and unfortunately, we have had to recently.  Usually just unhanded tactics by non-disclosure of affiliation.

It would be nice to know of more stores that sell top end tackle but I certainly also understand the financial realities of operating a forum such as this. Its certainly not cheap and the money needs to come from somewhere. i.e. sponsors.
