Shimano Saragossa

After some advice on which model Saragossa SW is more suitable for GT popping out of the 20,000 or the 25,000 model, the rod I have already is shimano GT special.

Damien,

I'm fairly sure the only difference is spool size and line capacity. The 25000 is a seriously big reel, you won't want to cast it all day and you'll never need that much line capacity chasing GTs. 300 metres of 100lb (PE8is) is more than adequate.

They're pretty good reels and good value for money. The low gear ratio would drive me nuts though, particularly when working stickbaits, but there are guys that do it..some very successfully.

Regards,

If you're sure the Saragosa is the right for you, go the 20,000 for sure. I have 1 as an 80lb jigging reel and back up popping reel however the low speed of the thing shits me on the top water stuff!

I think I've heard somewhere that it's actually larger than a Stella 20,000? Either way, it took in excess of 400m of 80lb Daiwa boat braid which I thought was far too excessive for any application I can think of bar switch baiting Marlin!

I have an 8000 that I juiced up with some parts I had laying around, I initially bought it for light use and as a loaner outfit to keep my Stellas safe but I find myself reaching for it more and more, Stellas are so dam strong they can actually suck the joy out of  fishing sometimes.

I have two Saragosa's, a 10000 paired up with a pe5 saltist hyper popping rod and a 20000 paired with a okuma salina 3 pe8 jigging rod. The reels are very solid and have the added benefit of being pretty much completely sealed, mine have been dunked, sprayed you name it and are still both as smooth as the day I got them 9 months ago.
The 10000 I can cast all day it's a lot of fun and the 20000 is great for jigging as I prefer the lower retrieve rate but it is quite cumbersome and I think the 25000 may be a little overkill and also heavy for pegging stickbaits and poppers all day.

Hi Guys,
Haven't been on here for a while but this is one area I can confidently comment on, go the 20000 over the 25000. I service reels and with one of the side plates still being plastic the larger rotor on the 25000 actually makes it a weaker reel due to having more leverage to apply torsional load to the side plates. Had a 25000 in recently that had basically imploded on itself when fished with 100lb and the owner tried to go a touch too hard on a decent 35kg odd GT.
Cheers,
   John.

... then some schematics seem to be wrong/outdated!?

what about the 18000F series? They have the drag and the spool size....They do get heavy though
