New Cal early April
May 02, 2009, 02:48:46 PM
Hey guys, this is a late report, been at work every day since I got back 3 1/2 weeks ago

Fished with LPB for 3 days liveaboard a few hours south of Noumea. Very windy the whole trip, never got below 15knots and we were often fishing in 20+ knots which didnt help but we managed ok

The guides (Rudy and Sebastian) were great, very knowledgeable, helpful and nice guys to have a beer with at the end of the day

The fishing the first day was great...I got a 15kg GT after about 6 casts, and managed 4 GT, a nice goldspot trev, and a few reefies in the first 2 1/2 hour session...the rest of the day was nice reefies, a GT bust off (lost my only I-Cup which had done all teh damage until then) and a nice trout (12kg+) for my mate...the rest of the trip, sadly, the fish just didn't live up to that first day..managed a few new species (5 all up for the 3 days), 2 more GT and Dave and I both lost BIG YFT on jigs (we saw some from the school jump, easily 35kg+) but it just didn't fire..biggest GT was only just over 20kg too, so they weren't monster fish but good fun...they sure do fight hard over there.....Rudy was puzzled as to why there weren't more fish and he tried really hard, but that is fishing....the location, service and potential means I will definately be back

Capture of the week probably went to the decky, Sebastian, who landed a 13kg GT off the back of the boat one night on a soft plastic and a PE3 rod...it took him right around the boat and back, and somehow stayed away from the big bommie we were anchored only 20m from

It was also good because I took the family and got big brownie points for putting them up on the Isle of Pines whilst I went fishing  ;D

Scott,
Seb is deadly at the back of the boat at night. He's landed a 25kg GT anchored on that Smith GTK and old sustain!

Haha I am not surprised at all Kasey, we all got smoked a few times (my mate even put a bait ou ton his Hots 52XXH and got smoked!) and landed a few emperor off the back too, but how he landed that GT I don't know

I should have said in the main report too we did raise a few bigger fish but only one hook up, which busted off

Great report and pics Scott.
When we spoke last i dont think you'd thrown a popper before, looks like you've had a crash course.

How did you find the Ripple Fisher? It was the reversal wasn't it?

Cheers mate, Darren.

Yeah hey Darren, the 79 Reversal it was indeed...I really like using this rod, casts well, is easy to work but still has a fair bit of grunt when hooked up....I mainly used the Komodo in New Cal, however, due to casting and working bigger poppers that were just too heavy for the RF...when I did go back to the lighter lures and the RF after using the Komodo and casting I and G cups for a few hours it was like heaven!
