Take Just One - Lure
May 08, 2009, 07:42:28 AM
Been a bit slow around here lately so thought i'd pose a question....if you could take just one (size and style) lure with you, what would it be?

For me, based purely on prior performance, its a Skipjack 120 in Fusilier colour.  Casts a mile, easy to work all day, can make it bloop but also work back on a fast swimming style retrieve and it's caught plenty of fish for me in the past.  Struggles in heavy conditions but I can sacrifice that I think.

Hmm gotta be a Craftbait GT2, not sure what colour though. Can work it easily and effectively all day, good presence in the water.

there'd be quite a few lures which i think I could get by on their own with.

My pick would be the Sea Frog or a SS Glans but realistically, you don't need these. I'd be pretty confident out there with just a Heru Cubera in a 150g size.

From a stickbait perspective, a Orion Bigfoot 170 would do the job.
If it swims; I want to catch it!

actually, that is a really good point, George. If it was literally only one lure, it'd have to be an Orion. Anything would look like a hairbrush before too long!  ;D

If I was going to Ono Island Fiji I would definitely go for a green River 2 Sea Dumbell.

I was there in March and the Green R2S Dumbell outperformed all other lures on the boat (Cuberas, skip jacks, Rooster Haymakers, Gt Specials and a few other assorted poppers and stick baits).

It was also noticeable how more effective the green was compared to say the the blue.

They do get a bit beaten up by the end of the day.

But then again none of ours made it to the end of the day.

Hey Bruce,
I'm with you, river to sea dumbell 200, cheap as, sticks to the water in our sloppy conditions around shoalwater bay and seems to hang together OK.
Does "dumbell" refer to the lure or the user?

Mick, I've got the original 130g model but not many left - maybe six to eight of them.

I remember you buying Jai Bigheads every morning at Shoalwater a few years ago to replace your losses from the previous day!

This is a no brainer for me  ;) Full Scale Long Kong...handles the rough water well, has good presence and it can be fished all day on PE8-10....Most importantly it will still be fishable after quite a few fish .Unless you lose it ;D
