Hi Bwanna ,
In my opinion , it's pointless to force oneself to use 200 gr. when you can't work the lure effectively . Too many use heavy tackles but can't even load the rod properly for good casting distance and work the heavy lures properly as well as when eventually hooked up with good fish , can't handle the outfit optimumly .
I am of the opinion that big lures do not necessarily catch big fishes and in particular , big GTs travel in pair and they are not among the school of smaller ones . To target big GTs , one must know where they are and cast accurately as well as work the lure effectively to entice strike . Timing of tides is critical too so it's a matter of be in the right place at the right time .
What we may see when using big lures is a lot more spray when used by strong angler but the same lure may not produce much when used by average angler hence it is better to use lighter lure . In my years of GT fishing , I have never used anything heavier than 180 gr. and even that was for a shortwhile , nowaday I use 125 gr. and lighter but work it effectively to give maximum spray .
I still observe " match the hatch " theory for any fishing situations .
Jon .
