Stripper Eye Tragedy
September 26, 2009, 04:51:02 AM
Hey Everybody,

Tragedy struck.  2nd time out with a new GT special and my line grabbed my stripper eye and bent it to about a 45 degree angle.  I managed to straighten it out and continued fishing.  I went home and retied the shortest double I have ever done hoping that would keep this from happening again.  3rd time out all is well and working ok, one red bass and a couple of promising follows.  Then....lure stops in mid air, I look and the stripper eye was ripped from the butt side of the rod and folded flat on the rod with a knot around the eye right at the bimini.

Couple of questions here:  What is the best way to prevent this?  What model of Fuji SiC guide is the proper replacement for the GT special?

Looks like I am going to learn to replace eyes after all :)

Thanks,
Kurt

I think its Fuji MNSG40

I have found that slightly decreasing the line load might help a bit as well as if you really need to run a double, use a very very short one

Uonfortunately, that's part and parcel of GT fishing.

You need a Fuji MNSG size 40
If it swims; I want to catch it!

Unlucky Kurt, especially on such a new rod. Make sure your bimini legs are equal length as well, if one is longer than the other at all then you have a loose loop rattling through the guides.

Hi Kurt ,

Check this : http://www.fujitackle.com.au/ , MNSG - 40 is most likely being the right one for your rod .

Hi all, I had the same problem with my Caranx Kaibutsu Surface Monster,

Bent the stripper eye just about level with the rod, I've bent it back but its not the same
Very small doubles from now on!

Could anyone confirm if this is the same model eye I require MNSG-40?

Cheers Jarrad
