Zenaq Fokeeto Trevally FC83-7

Does anybody have any experience with this rod?  Thinking about it as a stickbait rod/stella 10k/80lb line?  Good combo?  Any help appreciated, cheers.

Travis, I own one, in fact it is the only popper rod that I do own.  I have asked the same question, and aparently it is more of a stickbait rod rather than a popper rod.  I've got a 20k spool with PE10 Varivas on it, and havn't snapped it yet.

Actually my opinion is not relevant, as I havn't caught a fish on any other rod!

The fish pictured was on a stick bait, and I short stroked the fish in, not going anywhere near a high stick.

The rod throws 150g poppers ande stick baits nicely (I think) but didn't handle I cup hammer heads.

Cheers, Shane.

Hi Travis, I have had the 83-7 for 1 1/2 years now, and it's here to stay. It was my 1st serious popping rod after weening on my Calstar 700H, and after thinking of 'upgrading' and trying a couple of 'Top Market' models at Bugatti I decided I preferred what I had, and is my goto rod unless I am using the bigger lures where I will grab my KD

Casting and working Stickbaits to 150 gms: Tops
Casting and working Poppers to 125 gms: Very good [125 Cubera is the biggest I use on that rod].
Fish fighting ability: Love it, even at 8'3"

A couple of pics of Zenaq FT83-7 caught GT's, including the world record caught at Tokara Japan.

Is that rod also called the Blue Lagoon Mick?  If so there's one for sale here...http://www.fishingkaki.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=155399&sid=9608020cf70097b3149e79e5faba784b

posted up only 10 days ago and doesn't look like it's sold  ;) ;)

Thanks a lot for your info Greg and Shane, certainly sounds like a capable rod!

Damn that fish is a monster - looks like they fish for them off a wharf or something at night??  Anyone else have any info on that spot?  Certainly produces the goods.

Mick, this topic is nothing to do with Carpenter rods , Travis isn't 'worried' about the Zenaq rod, he is after some information on it, he can make up his own mind on what brand of rod he wants, start your own 'Topic' of where the latest Carpenter rod is for sale.

PS: One of the rods I had a go with was a Carpenter, but I preferred the 83-7, 'THAT IS MY OWN OPINION' ;).

Hi Travis,

Just caught up with the post regarding Zenaq FC83-7. In my opinion it makes a great stickbait (up to 150g) and midsize popper rod (up to about 125g lures). 70-80lb line will work great with it but I wouldn't hesitate to go to 100lb in most situations. As you would expect of a rod around this line rating, it is an ideal all day rod and perfect for locations where the fish are mostly in the 15-35kg range (Bugatti and Elusive reef spring to mind).

We do currently have the FC83-7 in stock. It is priced at $925 and we will include free shipping within Australia. If you are able to drop in on the shop, let us know so we can organise to go down to the local jetty for a test casting session. Otherwise, if we ship the rod to you and on recieving the rod decide that it is not suitable, we would be happy to exchange or refund as is suitable.

Hope this helps

Regards
