Tweed Jigging 17/10
October 19, 2010, 10:41:51 AM
Headed down to the Tweed with a bunch of keen jiggers to fish with Rod Walmsley aboard RU4 Reel. After weeks of atrocious offshore weather, we were more than a little keen to get some lures in the water.

We started out fishing a wreck in 60m before moving further south as the day went on. Action was pretty steady with a mix of rats alongside a fair number of 8-15kg kings. One of the highlights was jigging a spot in 30-40m with a very unforgiving bottom. Some nice fish were landed and a few jigs were lost as the fish tore across the shallows for the nearest ledge. A few bite off's indicated that some wahoo or spanish mackerel have already moved in for the summer season as well. Looking forward to getting back down there to throw some stickbaits and poppers around for them next month!

Some of the takle that performed well on the day included mainly longer jigs like FCL's, jacknifers, marias and turkey sliders.
Rods used included Smith AMJ, several Marias, Synit and Live fibre Venom's.

Hi Duncan.

just wondering if i may ask;

a dumb question but the turkey sliders,  are they the one's from River 2 Sea,   or   is there another brand apart from River 2 Sea turkey sliders?

anyway if the ones you mentioned are from R2S - did you get any good fish on those jigs at all and do you know yourself if who the angler or anglers were who used the jigs got a or any hits when the jig was being jigged up,  or  only on the drop?

reason i ask is because - a few time's i have been out jigging off-shore off Sydney and i tried and used a turkey slider River2Sea 1.   for some reason i am not sure i honestly only got hit once but it was on the drop only,  and not on the retrieve.  Once that happened it occured to me as i started to think that they may flutter alot or do something on the drop when i got the 1 hit but failed hook-up unfortunately :( which was quite a while ago now.  I have also seen and witnessed myself of being out on a jigging charter and the skipper using a River2Sea turkey slider and in all honesty he to got hit on the drop only but the good thing was he landed his fish and it was not a giant like the one's in NZ,  from what i remember it was a nice and good king for off Sydney.

Sam
The Turkey Sliders were being used by Gordo, he did seem to be getting hit on the drop more often. He also donated a couple to some toothy critters that liked the way they fluttered on the drop as well. Mostly it was any of the longer jigs which were being hit. I used some shorter Hookers and FCL SL jigs, which usually slay them off Brisbane, but they didn't get much of a look in on this trip.

Yep, the guys were really getting stretched on the lighter outfits. Light leaders were taking far more hits, but when combined with smaller outfits it did lead to a few screaming bustoffs!

Don't tell me Andrew got the biggest fish  :'(   He's a tinny bugger!

Love the thongs on Brett.....good to see traditional footwear in use!

All in all a great day eh??
