Photos from New Caledonia - holy smoke!
September 14, 2007, 08:18:30 AM
I got sent these pictures by Eric Le Guyader.

These are a few of the fish he caught earlier this year on his trip to New Caledonia in June with Le Poisson Banane. Eric is a giant of a man so that should give you some perspective of the size of the fish. He would, in my view, be in the highest echelon of GT anglers. He simply seems to go quietly along and catches more big fish each year than just about anyone else out there. It happens too often for it to be a coincidence.

Eric is of course, also the maker of the famous Orion lures. Orion lures look plain but their effectiveness are absolutely beyond question. I've found them to be very effective myself. Orion lures can be obtained directly from Eric. Contact him on [email protected]

Finally, I think these photos clearly demonstrate that David and Rudy from LPB will get you hooked onto some of the biggest GTs in the world. Of course, landing them is your problem! One of our members who I won't name (so I will leave it him if he wants to identify himself)is taking on the challenge in October.

A couple of table-sized coral trout thrown in for measure.......

the lure in the third picture down is a Bigfoot. The one which the big coral trout is caught on (fifth picture) is a 190g ConoCono. They are a big heavy popper. There isn't much to them in that they're round and big but they create a huge commotion and attract very big fish.

I'm old - a Hammerhead or Bigmouth HP is bad enough these days without trying to work a ConoCono.

Brandon,

He's talking about photos that you obviously can't see :D ;)

He attached a pic of Pat Victorino with his double header Bluefin Trevors and a pic of your smashed pink Bigfoot from Shoalwater :)

I see in the first pic what look's to be an Accurate SR30.

Sure is!

Bertrand Picarda (Eric's fishing partner and a good fisherman in his own right) is affiliated with Accurate.

Serious fish.

I'm not sure what I'm more impressed with - the GT's or the Coral Trout.
Do the trout come from the same general environment as the GT's, or are they targeted at a specific location?

Same areas most of the time, but there are some deeper spots where they don't bother coming for a look.
