Fisherman Delta 5's
February 07, 2011, 11:52:34 PM
Hey Guys,

Just curious if anyone has fished to success with these lures.

Unless i'm blind i haven't seen many pics on this site with one hanging out of a G's gob.

Comment on which colour and model were successful, and technique used?

Thanks guys,
Sam
Cheers,
Sam

Sam, I haven't used them myself but both guys who were on my previous trip were using the biggest sinking version. It's got a very nice swimming action and they caught fish but both anglers did comment that they worked hard to pull them through the water in comparison to an Orion Bigfoot. I must say, it did look good in the water.
If it swims; I want to catch it!

Sam,

I've just ordered some from JDM - I hope they work - they cost enough ! I've gone for the WFT versions. I wont be using mine in anger for a few months, but will pass on details.

Sam

Have used these off Exmouth (late 2010) and while the action looked great (the correct retrieve rate is critical), there were no takers. However, the same went for most other stickbaits - all the action was on poppers especially in fusilier colour. The water was so thick with bait fish that some of the guys were jagging them by accident.

Great trip, best 2 fish over 50kg each.

Good luck

Les

Have a friend who is buying more of them shortly. Really likes the action. He does prefer the FRW (rear weighted) but not too sure about the colour.

The tow eye has pretty sharp edges so you might want to file it down a little. Might cut yourself when your hands are wet and slip while trying to put a split ring into it.

What would people reccommend between a Delta 5 and an Orion Bigfoot?

Looking for 1 more lure to add to the roll before an Exmouth trip in 2 weeks.

Not super experienced with stickbaits, so something that is fairly easy to get a good action into would be good.

Dan,

The Orion BigFoot is legendary! You may be hard pressed to find one that will arrive in time.

Bigfoot all the way.

I have been using a sinking Delta a bit lately and not that totally impressed with it.

Ok then Bigfoot it is.

Is the 190gram physically much bigger than the 140g? Or just heavier?

If you were to pick between the 140 and 190, which would you go for as an all rounder? Have a few of the Wahoo style stickbaits that ill be taking. Will be fishing Murion and Peak islands off Exmouth

Dont have a dedicated stickbait rod, will be on a T-curve GT special that I use for all heavy casting at the moment (soon to be upgraded)
