Winter GT fishing

Is winter time to put away GT popping gear? Are they still around, do they still bite? Do you change techniques at all? I fish inshore coastal waters in the Rockhampton (QLD) area by the way.

Not sure about your area but over here in the north of WA I notice the bite slow down a little in winter but it's still definitely worth a crack if the conditions are suitable. Caught plenty of great fish right through winter.

Down here in Brisbane they seem to go quieter when the water temps drop below 23 degrees in winter, but they still get caught from time to time. Up your way I don't think that it would be an issue at all. If anything it would be a little easier - at least for the anglers anyway

I haven't noticed any seasonal difference, might be a bit of a change in location but no change in numbers, except for a pretty wild run of fish after the big floods.  I think there would be 4 or 5 more important variables before we get down to time of year around central queensland.

Shuts  down almost completely up here in Bali.  The cold southern winter waters arrive about  now and are in place until late August.  Not only the GTs shut down but deep reef fish also become hard to come by.

Mark,
I'm sure winter in Bali must be bordering on unbearable.

 ;D. Yes, a freezing 28-30 degrees.

More seriously, the water temperature drops significantly and really does effect the fishing.
