Hard to tell proportionally how big it is. It's a sizeable fish but not exceptional in my opinion.

There is no doubt that GT can grow up to 1.8/2 metres, if not slightly over, from my knowledge.

Fukui-San has seen them with his own eyes, whilst he was a dive operator himself many moons ago in the Tokara region.

This is from Hawaii - a dead GT washed up on shore - likely death from old age or natural causes.

The carcass had rotted significantly and was estimated at over 200lb (91kg) and 2 metres in length.

The fish appears to be in the foreground making it look bigger!!

Some of the GT's in underwater world at Singapore are at least 1.6-1.7m long, they are cool 8)

Don't really know if I want to hook something as big as that dead one  :o

Exactly, there is nothing to reference the fish against - the bubble blower is in the background, clean water, could be any size...having said that I am not the resource for GTs so maybe you guys can pick up distinguishing features of the larger fish that I cannot.

This was a big Wrasse but you cant really tell either..

Yeah that first fish is difficult to tell the size, it's certainly a good fish but I would doubt it's monster class size.

I spent quite a few years diving and seeing many species of fish in their natural habitat and one thing you soon learn is that they almost always look bigger than they are(length wise) annd you learn to judge the size of the fish on the appearance of 'BULK' it gives in the water. I would estimate that fish at no more than 30kg. It may look longish but just doesn't look all that BIG if you know what I mean.

I have dived with a big Napolean Wrasse in the Maldives about 6 years ago - big brute that was around 5-6ft long and had a big body mass - got really close as the gentle fellow didnt seem to mind me swimming along with him :) couldn't hazard a guess at weight but he was awesome!

I chased around google and found the video where this still came from... the fish is no monster but nice to see a decent GT fearlessly swimming around a diver...

GUAM DIVING - GAB GAB? - GT "GIANT TREVALLY "

think its from Guam waters..
