a great trout capture by Mick

what a beautiful fish - a tuskfish

Perhaps my favourite photo from Shoalwater this year. I'm not sure if the capture was by Malcolm or Chris but apparently, what happened was that two mackeral of about equal size attacked the popper with both hooking up. The two fish went beserk after being hooked to each other and in their wild thrashing, one literally ripped the jaws out of the other!

Great report, Unfortunately you have found my very favourite spot to fish, Strongtide Passage.
I also fought very hard during RAP to keep it Yellow. Did you notice it was Green all around?

It's only 3hrs away for us and normally we head up once the weather settles down a bit. As you say, impossible to beat for sportfishing. We often get bricked by big trout in shallow water, but you can WALK over and dig them out the rocks! Did I mention the 3kg mud crabs?

That is such a great trip report Brandon, thank you.

To all else whom appreciate it, can I mention that Brandon not only has an amazing wealth of knowledge on GT fishing - as most of us know- but he has written that entire report purely on his memory recall of the trip - that blows me away cause I cant even remember that TV dudes name - Henry Hilliar or somthing.......

It was a real privilage to meet all the fellow GT warrior's, Malcolm(the gentleman) Chris(man mountain) and Brandon(why am I throwing this popper in their) they really are guns and I very much look forward to our future adventures.

Thanks all for a most fantastic time.

thanks Pete

did you like the look of resignation I have on my face before I end up throwing the popper in anyway? Last year, they really set me up on a few spots with "hey Brandon - throw you popper in there". I would then respond with "but if I throw a popper in and there is a decent fish in there, I am going to get slam dunked again" to which the reply would be "yes" and there would be a big smile to go with the reply. I would then throw another sacrificial Cubera in and get smoked! This year, I was throwing Craftbaits around hence the reluctance!

Damon got me good though. On Thursday when I was with him and Mick, we were in about 3m of water and I was looking at a bommie about thirty metres away and there were big GTs swarming all around it. I pointed at it and said "check out all the GTs there!" Damon then yells at me to cast one in so I very reluctantly toss a Craftbait into that mix. It doesn't last three seconds before a really big fish grabs it and I don't last much more than another two seconds after it is taken.....  :'(

Lucky you guys went last week!
We currently have South East 25-35knts and raining, forecast for tomorrow is similar only worse! Shoalwater Bay has had about 100mm today so far, and expecting flooding again by the end of the week. Might be some breaks in the wind, but the rain......
