Kelvin, Varivas split rings are very strong but that is also their weakness. Getting them onto big hooks without deforming them can be difficult. If you like this shape, the Carpenter split rings are the same shape as the Varivas and are more flexible so they retain their shape better

Will be going back to Owner split-rings as well.

Hi all
I use owner 11 for most my heavy jigging and size 9 for lighter stuff. With my pliers and rocking boat in mind, they are the best to work with.
For popping been using anglers pal 350 and 400lb. Big gap and very easy to work with.
Good price too.

Just to add to the debate I came across this site.http://www.leadertec.com/
and see they do Wolverine split rings 10 mm diameter, 260 lb breaking strain pkt 10 for us$4.00
how do they compare to the owners and do they distort when put on.
