Mahalo Simon were definitely having some fun here In Hawaii and we've got a lot of things planned, slowly but surely :).

Howzit Alex, were kind of scattered i'm on Oahu along with the other guys and Nate if you haven't noticed is in Kona on the "Big Island". He fly's over to fish with us and vice versa. He's been getting spoiled lately while he flies first class to Oahu and crashes on a nice bed and gets fed 3 healthy meals a day then gets escorted to GT's and Bones while we fly over in coach, end up sleeping on the ground with a diet of beer and food from gas stations. Then we have to scale cliffs and miles of lava to go fishing, something is wrong with this arrangement  ???

Some action from the boys on Molokai. Sold my buddy Bufo a Carpenter WV that I picked up from a fellow GT Popping forum member because his rod fell out of the truck and got ran over a while back  :o. Its a perfect match for him and he's been putting it to good use.

Too bad I had to work the action has been fast and furious on the outer Islands!

Kawika and Bufo, an hour after receiving the rod and the start of Bufo's streak  ;D

Ladd Yoshimura stopped by for the day to hang with the guys, Had two GT's on one lure but one shook off and landed the other. Almost Buddy!

The Molokai Boyz guided Ean to his first GT, Congrats! He's not smiling for some reason  ;) but he was once he caught his breath. Nice job Ean, the first of many more :).

Aloha

Nice Charles again.

Bufo looks like a big fella and the WV will suit him :)

Doing it the real way on Big Island!
Three friends and myself made a day trip south side adventure into some remote fishing grounds. We loaded up our day packs with some water and fishing tackle and drove to the southernmost point of the USA. Once we got there, we tied on our boots tightly and started on a full day of searching for GT's on foot.

The midway highlight of the hike includes a 350ft vertical cliff that requires some serious balance and a rope to navigate downwards- especially carrying fishing rods! Atop the cliff makes for an excellent position to survey the conditions below, as this area is notorious for giant crushing rogue waves. Luckily though, this day was as calm as we've ever seen it and the fishing spots looked very inviting.

After a short rest after reaching the bottom of the cliff, we tied up out gear and got right into some excellent fishing. 3/4 of us each took strikes on our first casts with the small game gear.
Throughout the rest of the day we covered about 9 miles of distance and managed to find consistent action from small goatfish to medium sized GT.
An excellent day of fishing for sure, but the scramble back up the cliff at the end of the day as brutal as always!

Some photos of the little adventure:

Our shade tree at the base of the cliff has excellent small game and bluefin trevally to start the day

This is a sunken lava tube that stretches out over the reef for about 100m. Its only accessible to venture onto when the waves are small. Even still, you always have to be watching out on that spot, just one decent wave will erase you off the rock. Schooling bluefin trevally are always around this structure.

A Manybar Goatfish (Munu) one of several species of small game available for light tackle.

A black sand beach just a few hundred meters down from the cliff. I had 2 GT swim right in front of me on the beach while i was catching small fish >:(

Much of the fishing grounds include casting from barren lava rock points like this

If there was a 50kg GT down there, it would've been right here, but good luck landing it though. Big waves, tunneling caves, deep water, and sharp shallow reef, all in one small area. Surprisingly no strikes at this prime spot???

My friend with the first GT of the day, landed on 40lb leader among some nasty reef. VERY impressive!

Small bluefin trevally, hitting a skipjack 150

Gotta catch a bigger one than my friend! Had to lock this one down to keep him from an outer reef, the UC100XXH ruined his day!

Release photo, you can see the fish about to enter the water below. The reef looks shallow, but its about 2m deep right at the base of the cliff.

Taking a rest at the farthest point of the hike. We all needed a break before making the 4 mile hike back, and especially for the climb back up the big cliff.

I bet you thought I was joking about scaling cliffs and traversing miles of lava.

Nice action Nate! Love the pics and recognize the tree's. Got to show a pic looking up that cliff from the base?  :o

Water temps are rising and the fishing is starting to get better here in Hawaii!!!
Got this nice one on the UC100XXH about 20 minutes before getting demolished by an unstoppable beast of a GT that found the reef :(

Our first trip for April we were able to boat two out of 4-6 strikes on a school hour run. Brian hooked up on a Lunchbox Popper with a feisty fish that would not stop moving. As I was trying to leader it he nearly cracked me in the face with his tail, the guys were cracking up lol.

Vinh was up next with a nice one breaking in his new rod the PD Black Mafia which was purchased from GT Popping for sale section, Mahalo!

The next fish on fought back hard and I layed into him with 3 weeks frustration of no fish and it felt good!

I tighten the drag down and regain my footing and go to work on him. As I gain line I can feel it rubbing rocks, Crap! Lay it on him and get um out of there, I pull him out and start boosting on him again, he makes his second run taking back everything I gained, this is when he starts feeling big.

I stop him again, then this time I start sitting on the rod butt gaining line as the boat rocks up and down inch by inch, the reel handle is blocked by my leg so I start turning the rotor by hand gaining whatever I can. After a breather I tuck the rod under my armpit and start pulling him up slowly with short boosts and cranks. We see color and its over, what a battle! We boat him and take measurements, 134cm and his girth is ridiculous a new personal best for me.

What an awesome two days fishing and we agree to end it on that fish and head back to the harbor, Guns n Roses "Paradise City" blasting on the stereo!

We do it Hawaiian Style  8), Aloha we'll see you guys next time!

Great report Charles!

I especially love the look of that first black beast - a real bruiser.

And interesting to hear about a new 14000 getting a proper workout and seemingly coming through with flying colours.

Well done to you and the team!
