varivas super pe 20kg
June 08, 2012, 11:27:49 AM
Well after taking delivery of my stella 5000sw and a spool of varivas super pe 20kg i spooled up. Line looked great, with the stella stating a capacity of 230m of 0.30 and the line stating a diameter of 0.28 i assumed 240m would be ballpark - WRONG! After spooling up with heavy tention the reel only took 195. My question to you guys is who is to blame - shimano or varivas  >:(

Not sure there is going to be much joy to be had in looking for someone to blame

Happen quite often with line capacities (over or under) in my experience. I have always thought it is the reel manufacturers who get it wrong.

blame probably poor choice of words brandon - that extra 50 metres is viral to my intended use so just a little frustrated - my first experience with varivas

Your only option is to look for a Stella SW6000 spool. Its a JDM model so won't be cheap. I think Studio Ocean Mark make one too

Hey Brett,
Don't be put off Varivas it's the best line going. Its shimano that state inaccurate capacities.

No doubt that Varivas is the best line going for GT fishing as evidenced by the number of serious GT anglers who use it.

Not so sure on the smaller sizes.

On line capacities, the biggest recent inaccuracy I have seen is in on the 2010 Saltiga 5000 (hugely understated) but I think all reel manufacturers get it wrong sometimes.  I think there was even a thread about that here.

I've never seen the stated line capacity go on any reel.  My personal rule of thumb is -50m and your in the general vicinity of what you'll actually get.  Plus or minus a bit...
