New big chugger - Adhek Big Buffalo
June 30, 2012, 05:25:51 PM
I thought I would let you guys know that Adhek has released his large chugger. It has been in research and development for more than a year and will now finally hit the market.

The aim was always to produce a chugger larger than he had ever made before, and for it to move a lot of water without being too stressful on the angler. I would put the lure somewhere in between a GT3 170 and GT3 190 in terms of water presence, but it is surprisingly easy to work. Most of the testing has been done using MH80H. It is an interesting looking lure (check out the beautifully painted horns!) and the keel design helps it hold the water even in quite choppy conditions.

No doubt the Big Buffalo will make its way to existing Adhek retail outlets, but in the meantime if any of you are coming to Bali just give me a shout and I will organise some.

Specs: 216 mm long, 51 mm face, 180 grams.

Interesting  ... but isn't it upside down (ie I don't know any fish with eyes underneath)

Very interesting information, Mark. I like Adhek lures and use them often. Thank you for posting. Now I have to get this new model to try.

I will be in Bali in November. I think I'll have Big Buffalos by that time, but I'd be happy to meet and have a GT talk  :)

Graham.... for that matter I have never seen a fish with a squid hanging off it, but that design works!  More seriously, Adhek always sets the eyes low on his lure so they are seen by the predator from below and believes that this helps for stirring them up.

Dmitrii - let me know when you have dates and we can certainly meet up.

You're wondering about upside down eyes - what about a fish with horns!?  :o  ;D

I like the conventional shape I bet it casts like a bullet, a little like the Kathibe I am waiting to try out.

Is Adhek a Red Dragon fan, would have been a better name :P...

Red Dragon!  I love it :) .

It does cast well for such a large popper Andy. The aerodynamics are not unlike Kathibe as you say, although the Big Buffalo is a chunkier lure.

Fair enough.  But animals don't see detail the way we do.  For example you can trigger a feed response in baby birds by using a pencil if it has a red strip in right place.  Who knows what GT see and process but eyes are a big trigger for predators and they would be not expecting them on the underside - they just look wrong to me I am guess I am comparing them to every other lure I have seen (FCL puts eyes on the the tail end of popper and that make sense as an injured fish will sometimes float head down).  Balance that against with surface lures the fish likely only see shadow and the makers experience (lightyears ahead of mine).
