Valley Hill Kamaja 83

Hi guys: I saw a heavy spinning rod today in a tackle shop here in Hong Kong that seemed a bargain, but I was confused by its specs, and the language barrier in the shop (I don't speak Chinese) prevented the owner explaining more. The rod was by Valley Hill. The specs above the foregrip said "Kamaja 83 Jigging" (Yes, jigging...It did not say "popping" or "GT Chaser" or "GT Sniper")... but it was 8'3" long and to my untrained eye it looked like a heavy popping rod. The detachable handle wasn't the standard hypalon...the front of the forgrip and end of the rear grip were overbound with a black leathery grip, sort of like a tennis racquet.

To confuse matters more, the bag that came with the rod listed both jigging weights and casting weights (up to 6oz) and recommended PE 2-8 (which seems broad!).

At US$190, the price was very good ... but is this too good to be true? It didn't seem to be a knockoff; it looked and felt like quality. The shop has previously been very reliable, but I am reluctant to buy as I can't find anything that looks like this rod in the current Valley Hill catalogue. I'm after a popping rod, not a jigging rod.

So does anyone know anything about this rod? Is it worth a shot?

Hi Greg

Thanks for that. I saw this info on the VH website too, but unfortunately my rod doesn't look quite like the one shown (either the IKP83 Popping or the GT Chaser), esp the handle. Mine also had a aluminium gimbal with a removable butt cap. Perhaps the one I saw was an older/semi-custom model? And then there's the price...which makes me suspicious.
