Been spending a bit of time up and down the Queensland coast lately. Even though my local is around Brisbane and the water is quite cool around 19-20 degrees I can't help but try my luck anyway. No G.T.'s yet, but I know they are still out there. But I have managed a couple of decent Spanish Mackeral at 14 and 15kg. Been bitten off once and missed about 7-8 more Spanish and Tuna. Been using the same Cubera 150 since a Central Queensland trip back in May and it has somehow survived 2 bite offs, a trip to the reefs off Cairns and numerous G.T.'s, Queenfish, Red Bass and Spanyids. Was lucky enough the bite offs didn't take the lure and both times I watched fish trying to eat the popper while it was floating stationary on the surface which is probably the only time I didn't want a fish to eat it.
I'll let the pictures do most of the talking. The first bunch are from Central Queensland, the next lot are from the Far North and the last bunch will be from local waters.
Also managed to score a 5/0 ST66 Owner through my face which made for an interesting day. I was picking up a Mackeral ready for a photo when the fish kicked. It was hooked up on the front treble while the rear one was swinging free and managed to catch my face. One hook in my face and another in a toothy Spanish Mackeral only the poppers length away from taking an eye out. It was panic stations until the fish was off let me tell you!
Was lucky enough the barb went the whole way through to make for an easier removal. I guess that's one reason to fish barbless or singles!
