Southern Oman season starts with Ocean Active
October 09, 2013, 08:04:20 PM
In the off season we have done a heap of work to get the boats refurbed and sorted out for the coming season. The boats were stripped down and then cleaned, painted and everything remounted. The engines were totally overhauled and ready for the new season. Cameron and the team have done a great job and good to be able to control the work being done on the boats and a big achievement to have the boats back into the water!

Using cranes to move the boats, all stripped down.

Salalah is not the easiest to work on boats but the guys all helped and was a great attraction for the local fisherman watching us work on our boats!

Nearing the end and remounting all the equipment.

Engines being delivered.

Sea Hawk 1 and Sea Hawk 2 refurbed, re-powered and ready to head for our island home by sea from Salalah!

After a lot of work and preparation we got the Southern Oman season started off with a bang! Jed Chamberlian, Russell Domingo, Greg Kurten and Neline (Rassie) Erasmus doing the first trip of the season. The khareef looked like it was calming down middle September but this was just a tease and we were all a bit concerned that the first trip would not start but we managed to get the guys out and fish for a few days before the weather turned bad. Luckily being based out on the island we did not have to bash through big seas and could run a few hundred meters and start fishing!
?The fishing was tough in the conditions and also raising fish but the guys landed a good number of GTs and lost a good number waiting for their return next October!??All the guys caught their PB GTs and a heap of other smaller species. Well done boyz!!??Rods Used:
Race Point 200
Carpenter EP86/40 ?Hots 79XH

A few more pictures from the last couple of weeks Southern Oman with a wide variety of species. Quite amazing out around the islands you never know what you going to catch next! Light tackle, heavy tackle, jigging, popping, all a bit of a lucky packet! The number of AJs at the moment is staggering with 20+ AJs in a session.

Getting ready on the upper terrace of the lodge.

Brett bending on the jig!

Brett with a AJ

Trev with an AJ

Double AJ trouble!

Alex with a decent AJ

Big Blacktip Trevally, one of the hardest fighting fish pound for pound!

Geet

Even the smallest GT will take on the biggest lure, sometimes wonder what goes through these little guys minds!!

Best eating fish in the sea, Spotted Grunter! We normally catch these in estuaries on fresh prawn, Southern Oman we catching them on jig! Crazy!

Barry bending on a big boyar which hit the lure against the rocks, pouring on the pressure!

Bus Bohar Snapper!!

Yellowdot Trevally!

I still have nightmares about being cut off by those fish Nick.. there are some GTs there that are just not meant to be caught. Or you need some serious luck to land them. We donated 9poppers in 3days to some seriously big fish. what an experience though. cant wait to get back there next year. Cannot describe the addrenalin rush seeing a 50kg GT hitting a popper 5metres from the boat.

Howzit Russell! Was awesome to finally get you guys out on the boat and the first of many trips! Those big GTs will live on in nightmares and dreams for a long time! Amazing seeing the power and speed, proper GT Adrenalin! Those big ones is more luck than anything else, he is the boss most of the fight! Look forward to round 2 next month!

Cheers,
Nick
