Hallaniyat Island Southern Oman with Mogi-san
February 21, 2014, 08:01:19 PM
Been a while since posted last and had a heap of trips and fish being caught, will post a few in the coming week.

It is always a pleasure to have Mogi-san and his groups fishing with us in Oman either Musandam or Hallaniyat Islands. Always a lot of fun and Mogi-san always seems to bring the luck for the big GTs! The group was Mogi-san, Deguchi-san, Watanabe-san and Horiguchi-san. The biggest GT for the trip was about 46/47kgs.??With the conditions being super calm and not much current the guys had to work hard for their fish but the guys managed some big Omani GTs. Last time Mogi-san fished with us in Southern Oman we were still running from Shuwaymiyah so it was great to see the guys happy being close to the fishing grounds on the island and how much of a big difference it made to fishing time and also being able to catch fish early and late when they came onto the bite.??Along with some nice GTs the guys put some nice Ajs, Grunter and Kob on the deck. Great trip and look forward to the next one!

Definitely on my list for the near future.  I've read that October-April are popular months there, right?  Are any moon phases better, or should it even factor in to trip scheduling?

Thanks,

Dan

Awesome - that Kob's a new one?

Spotted the Carpenter rod with a non standard stainless reel seat - black hoods? ;)

Hi Dan, 100% correct the season starts early Oct and ends end of April. Tides always with GTs has a role to play, we don;t get massive current movements in Southern Oman but wind plays quite a big role, so a bit of wind and a good tide will always help. Give us a shout when you eke to head this way.

Hi Amr, This season turning out to be similar to the 2011/12 season so hopefully get the big spawning bite!

Hi Alex, hope you're well big guy! Got a few job (mulloway) awesome to catch on jig, in SA we battle to catch them on anything so catching them on jig is really special! There were a few custom Carpenters, Ninja-san had an all black model that was very interesting!

Cheers,
Nick
