what are GTs called in different parts of the world?

In Japanese they're known as Rounin Aji.  In the Okinawan dialect, which I think most Japanese use for GTs, they are Gara.

In Palau, GTs are called Orrobk.

What I found interesting was that the Tongan's had different names for a GT dependant on the size of the fish... The names I can't recall but there was at least 3 I think?...

And so I'm told... You also earn Kudos as a fisherman for the 400lb mono cuts/scars in your hands from handling the big GT's

They are called Jash Sandook in the UAE and parts of the Oman.  Jash is the name for the Trevally family.........Sandook means box in the local dialect, it makes sense when you see how thick these fish are in the Mussandam, and southern Oman.

GT in Solomon Islands Pijin [taken from Kwa'rae language of Malaita] is 'mamula' [ pron mahmoolah ] actually generic for all the larger Carangids

GT in Marovo and Roviana languages [Western Solomons] 'Batubatu'  v similar to Brandon's PNG term

we see this happening again and again across the Pacific with food fish names in the hundreds of Austronesian languages
Spaniard in Mentawais = tengiri
Spaniard in Marovo = tangiri
only a couple of thousand km apart

we even share some Hawaiian Polynesian fish names, all those centuries and thousands of km apart
