Hi Jed,
Great report and cracking photos you seem to have had plenty of action while you were there.
I am heading over in February next year staying at Ikari House 6 off us in total one of the lads is just going for the photography. How did you find Ikari House and the guides I have heard its the best accommodation on the island and the food is pretty good.
Were you using barbless hooks on your poppers and stickbaits and did any particular produce well for you.
Ian
Hey Ian
From what we were told Ikari is the best lodge for this style of fishing
Food was amazing as we were eating fresh fish and normal western dishes as well.
boats were good size for fishing 4 guys out of the only bad thing about them was how slippery the decks can get.
There is no gripping at all so maybe look at foot wear options.
guides are a little more suited to flats fishing but are becoming more knowledgeable of the offshore options and what to look for you will at times have to instruct them where you want the boat placed ( as in how far from the reef etc, ) and what you want to target.
We use barbless 100 percent of the time anywhere in the world for top water
Lures that were stand outs
Cubera 100-180
FCL CSP s180s
Real Spirits Meryron Ya 190F
any thing like a CSP s110s FCL was ridiculous on smaller reef dwellers at times these would last one cast and never be seen again
so make sure you have heaps of small stick baits that will cast long distance
Pacemaker stick baits
FCL 190f Ebi pops
basically any popper in the 120 gram range that you can cast a mile
same with the stick baits and make sure you take lots of sinking sticks the bass trout and tuna will destroy them.
standard jigging gear 200 gram stuff
Love to hear how you guys go
Jed
