Gday guys, Andrew is my name i live in tweed heads, fish te local reefs around here 3 to  4 times a week.  I also jig some of the wider grounds for ajs kings and sambos, but of late ive been hooked on trowing poppers, since i went on a family holiday to Fiji and fished the coral caost. First trip on the boat I caught three blue fin trevors, second day another three and was completly blown away by a 50+ kilo gt, ever since that day ive been hooked. Would love to catch up with some of te local fishos so we gang gang up on the local gt population.

Hi all,

I am Andy aka Barrachaser and I am from Singapore and a newbie to popping. We have pay ponds here to pop for GTs as we do not nice and pristine natural environment for wild GTs. Hope to learn pick up new tips and knowledge from this forum.

Once I gets the hang of popping, I will head down under for some serious popping action....^^

Cheerios....

Wotcha, I'm Marcus an English expat based in Bangkok, I haven't caught a GT or thrown a popper, yet.. but I hope that'll change in the not too distant future

So far most of my saltwater fishing has been limited to trolling, bottom bashing and bait fishing in the Gulf of Thailand for King Mackerel, Dorado, Pompano, Cobia, Snapper, Grouper etc. I also get out to some freshwater marks here in Thailand targeting Mekong catfish, snakehead, jungle perch etc

I enjoy reading the stories and insights that have been shared here

Tight lines folks!

Hey all,

My name is Andrew, I just moved to Fiji for a year living in Suva. I was buying some poppers before I left at a store in Sydney and had a good chat with someone from this forum who advised I sign up. I only brought over a stella 4000 and a light graphite rod because I don't have a lot of very specialised tackle so I'm potentially in a bit of trouble... but they often catch GTs here on 100lb handlines I'm told, so I guess I need to man up a bit. Anyway if anyone has any advice for a newbie or if there are any other Suva-ites here that want to hook up for a fish, let me know.

I've only been fishing once since i got here in a little boat I paid $10 to go out. Got busted off by something on a popper and the guy taking me was rolling around on the floor of the boat laughing. Manhood needs some repairing methinks. Stella 10k for Christmas perhaps :D

Also for those that like reports, my friend who paddles a lot caught a nice 10kg GT the other day trolling a popper behind his canoe.

Hi Andrew, for memory I think we spoke in my shop in the sydney CBD and you had mentioned you were loving to fiji for a while and wanted some ideas on fishing fiji so I had told you what I new...If its you then good to see you on hear part of the Forum mate..
Your stella 4000 would be great for 20lg or 30lb chasing the light tackle species around the shallow reefs or beachs for small GTs,blue trevally, light tackle casting at small jellybean yellow fin but if you want to chase the much bigger stuff I would definetly say look into investing in a stella 10000FA or 20000FA,you will often find Fishos on this forum sellin a lot of there gear, poppers, reels rods and much more,
Unless you want to buy a brand new stella 18000SW ;) would be the ideal xmas gift..

Fiji has plenty to  offer for fishing, heading off to the islands are spot on for some hi action fishing..

Hi My name is Alexander Nilsson
Nick Name: Capt Alex

Website www.captalex.no

I am 40 years young 100% fishing bum! and origin from Norway, making my living from salmon guiding in Norway during summer and have my own charter boat in Kenya and operate down there when its winter in norway, october- mars.
Trying to learn a lot more about the Gt fishing because Kenyan coast has an extremely good stock of this fish.

We have got a lot of fish over 40 kg on jigging and even bigger fish in the past years.
In the area we fish its not many boats and the possibilities is very good and especially the popping ares are huge and not tried out at all..

I saw fish going for the popper in last february close to 60 kg but things did not get so well after that, but the popper was floating in to Shela Beach two days later.

A old fisherman I learn a lot from has told me a story about several GT caught on long line,,,,,close to 100 kg and I believe him!

Hope you guys will fill me up with knowledge and I will try to give something back!!!

Picture: one happy client with his first GT ever!! me to the left!!

Best Fishes

Hi All

My name is Roderick Walmsley and am based on the Gold Coast. I have fished profesionally, commercially and recreationally my entire life, originally from South Africa I have been fortunate to have fished all over the world for a multitude of species but definately find the lure of a gt eating a popper or dogtooth tuna eating a jig to be right up there with some of the most exciting fishing you can do. I am currently running a game boat out of Tweed Heads that specialises in sportsfishing charters and am a free lance fishing journo the rest of the time. I have spent a fair bit of time since finding this site reading through many of your posts and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. I am looking forward to reading and particapating on this site,

Catch You on the water
