Hi All - my name is Gavin and i live in Sydney - most of my fishing over the last 10 years has revolved around LBG on the north coast of NSW and local Sydney ledges in the warmer months and spinning for jew in winter.

I've caught some decent fish (as far as landbased in NSW anyway!) longtails, cobes, spanish mackeral and yellowfin.

But the fish that has eluded me this whole time is a 20kg+ king and its killing me! I want to concentrate in getting one from a local ledge this season AND (although spanish seem to be a nuisance fish for the dedicated GT guys) I'd love to get one on a surface lure from NSW as well

Anyway, I'm quite new to the surface luring game and this forum seems like a great resource - looking forward to contributing somehow

I'm another new member to this forum , my name is Rory McPherson , I live in Huia , Auckland , NZ. I like casting to kingfish . As well as stickbaiting I'm taking Salt water fly fishing seriously this year and come Jan/Feb/ march will be hunting striped Marlin on plastic out from where I live on the west coast.
Have fished a bit with Mark from Extreme sportsfishing and am a fan of Carpenter rods and lures.

Hi,

My name is Nick, i'm from the UK bit live in Singapore. I've been fishing for quite a few years now but mainly lure fishing and fly fishing. I recently brought a GT rod and wanted to have a go at this style of fishing although i have had limited success to date, although some quite nice by-catches! We mainly fish in Thailand, Singapore and the UK but i'm looking forward to some more GT orientated trips in SE Asia, i hear Indonesia is pretty good if anyone has any info on that! Just looking to get some tips from more experienced members and GT fisherman!

Cheers

Nick

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster  ;)

I live in Mackay and have recently become infatuated with the pursuit of these beasts out of my 4.85 Haines Signature centre console.  A few mates and I have done a lot of work in the last 4 months on GT popping in local areas (not many others do it) and we have had some great success, with on average a fish per trip landed out of several hookups or awesome surface explosions when the weather allows us to get out.

I have been fishing lures and fly for about 20 years but there is so much to adjust to with this form of fishing, from terminals to rods and reels, knots and even a seperate set of pliers for the huge rings!  ;D

I think I am most addicted to that surface strike.  It almost seems boring to go subsurface  ::)  Also good to see some lure fishing colleagues blown away or landing a big GT for the first time, that is probably the most satisfying thing of all.

Looking forward to sharing some of the experiences and asking lots of questions!
Focus on the pop

Hi there

My name is Steve and I'm from Singapore. Been fishing actively for close to 20yrs now. Oh, am turning 41 this year!!! I am a jigging and popping enthusiast and strongly believe in C&R whenever possible. Bcos Singapore's waters don't hold any big pelagic and game fish, I have to travel all over to get my fix. Have been to Thailand, Maldives, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand and different parts of Indonesia thus far.

Looking forward to fish Australia (Cairns & Exmouth), Middle East and parts of Africa soon. Will not hesitate to explore anywhere that holds big fish (especially GTs, Doggies, YFT, Amberjacks etc....). If the fish are attracted to my jigs or surface lures, I will be attracted to them!!!  ;)

Hope to make some friends, gather some contacts and learn some stuff here!

Hello,

My name is Charles Cintron and I live in Hawaii. Although I have been fishing since I was a child I have only been seriously GT Popping for a little over a year now and having a great time doing it. Iv'e gotten a lot of great info from this forum and its amazing to see GT's being caught in such exotic places. Ive only fished for GT's in Hawaii but hopefully sometime in the future along with some friends we'll be able to make some trips down south. Anyways I think it will be a great year for GT fishing in Hawaii as there are a small hardcore group of GT popping fisherman who are really going to go after them this coming up season and hopefully show some real bruisers coming up in our waters.

Well hope to share some pictures soon and good luck to everyone in 2012.

I salute you my lords  :D, I realize that I've never presented.  :(
I will fix this oversight in 2012  ;)

I am 70 years old and live near Lyon in France, I have several passions in my life which, scuba diving, jazz music (I play the piano) and fishing, fly fishing in river and exotic fish.
I love surface fishing as fishing popper and I am a big fan of lures Eric Le Guyader, Eric is a very friendly and very humble fisherman.
My favorite rods are the Carpenter, Fisherman, and Smith.
For the moment my best results have been to exotic, Andaman 2 times, Djibouti, Maldives, Oman for my biggest GT.
Other trips were not as good as in Gabon, Tanzania, in Rodrigues, Panama and so on, often because of bad weather.
My motto of Pierre Clostermann
"Saint Peter gives me finally catching fish so great that the temptation to lie by describing me forever spared, for I am only a poor fisherman

Hey guys,

I'm from Perth Australia and have mainly been breaming, bottom boucing and jigging but have booked some time to go out with Eddy on Peak sportsfishing in Exmouth around May to pop my GT popping cherry.
Looking forward to learning as much as I can from this forum and the experienced members until then.

Cheers. ;D
