Nail Knots.

Today I got around to finishing some twisty leaders in the correct manner and finishing them with the nail knots...(no heat shrink & glue as yet).

The nail knots seem to work very well and under some serious tension hold up really well.

This may be a stupid question but how is it the leaders dont unravel..?
How can such a simple little knot hold them together so well...??

It seems to easy...I am worried.. ...the self doubt has found me...

I'll have a stab at this one...
From what I can see, by making the bite section of the twisty, when wound the "right" way (it's pretty easy to tell when you've wound the "wrong" way), the leader appears to lock into itself a bit rope... I even think it has a similar appearence and strength characteristics to rope. I dont really think the nail knot adds a massive amount of strength to the leader. I think it stops it from unravelling and finishes off the leader neatly... and sure, it would aid in it's overall strength, but I really do think its the twists back into itself that gives it strength.
Well, I think that's how it works...

The ones are I have done are very uniform and neat..(done correctly)

The reason for the post was I find it surprising they dont unravel and can take the pressure.
Its a great system.

Greg they look exactly like the one you sent me...I used 100lb Tuff line to do the nail knots...Did two of them.
