Nice work Andy, enjoyed the read.  Broken rods give me the jeebies - when they let go there must be a chance of losing the lot into the water $$$??  And did he continue to muscle it with the fish or cut the line?

Great report Andy, look forward to seeing the video when you get the chance to post it, bummer about the 18k, i hope that doesn't happen to mine sometime soon. Even though the trip started off on a bad note it still looks like you had some fun & caught soood fish.

When & where is the next trip?

Great read Andy, nice to hear of a relatively unexplored spot with some big fish.

Hi All,

Thanks for your replies.

Jon, I'm going to be in town for a while, so look forward to hearing from you again. Definitely another visit required and I believe jig opportunities as well.

Travis, Brad is a big guy and he was not giving that fish too much slack as the bottom was very tight, it was a powerful fish and something had to give, we tried to assist muscling the fish out but it broke the line moments later.

Hi Brock, yep we did have a great time, one really has to bring along a sense of humor when things don't look so promising. I had arranged the trip and Brad was my guest so I'm very happy he is a 'knock about bloke' with a good sense of humor. Next May to Marion and Bugatti, may try some local spots before then.

Regards to All
Andy

Enjoyed the report and pics Andy. :)

Shame about the Shimano rod - similar thing happened to my wife with her Shimano Lesath 240GTH (I've posted the pic before but here it is again for completeness). For the sake of all those Shimano rod users out there I hope that this is sheer coincidence. That said, Shimano replaced my wife's rod without any quibbles.
