Topwater Caranx Ignobilis: Giant Trevally (GT) > Reports & Expeditions
any tips for shoalwater
Ivan Verhage:
cheers graham
ill definatley bring a lighter outfit hopefully to catch some trout because we donot plan to bring up allot of food
Travis Heaps:
We've only been up a few times but the Gt's can be frustrating - all the best looking spots yielded nada. The only thing we didn't try was sinking stickbaits - when we went the water temp was very warm (30 degrees or so). The only explanation I came up with was the fish might be hanging deeper off the shallow points in the cooler water. So I suppose the tip is to take lures to cover all options as there's a bit of everything up there.

Had similar experiences over here, good tides/moonphase, weather etc... and cast poppers into a really likely looking spot for nothing. Try every trick in the book and leave shaking my head in amazement.
On other days you get obliterated on the first cast ;D
