Loop knot to Popper

<< < (2/2)

Chris Young:
Hi Sam

If you are useing 100lb braid then 200lb  mono should be fine for single strand leader. Forget about loop knot direct to popper, tie a strong (250lb at least) 2/0-3/0 swivel to the leader end via uni-knot, then connect swivel to lure with 300lb split ring. Makes it very simple to change lures without retieing knots etc. Leader length is a personal thing ,some like a couple of wraps on the spool for casting, I like no knots on the spool at all. For me about 8ft ;)

Sam Cheadle:
Cheers Chris,

I will do as you suggest. I do have those split rings, and will get the swivels. Should i buy a specific brand of Swivel?

Sam, is there any reason why you want a loop knot?

Stick baits work better with the loop and no wire

Dave Foyle:
Hi Sam,

Chris is spot on with his advice.

I would keep the leader knot off the spool - this will reduce tangles a fair bit and increase your casting distance - which can be important at Kadavu.

When I fished there the GT's were right in the breaker on top of the reef make sure you fire that lure right in the danger zone and hang on!!!

It is an amazing place to fish and I'm sure you will have a great trip with Adrian and Big Joe.

Tight lines    Dave
