65lb Tufline on a Dog Fight
March 18, 2010, 01:05:38 PM
Hi all,

Does anyone know how much 65lb Tufline I will get on a Dogfight Spool?

Or has anyone spooled up with line this before for jigging? Want to fit as much on as possible.

I don't know about 65lb Tufline on a dog Fight, but I did try to spool 80lb on my 16000FA spool and it barely got 300 yards on there.  If you're going for capacity I would suggest checking out other brands of braid with a smaller diameter.  I currently run 80lb saltiga boat braid for my GT popper set-up and am planning on running 70lb saltiga boat braid on my 20k stella for my jigging set-up.

I cant find any diameters on Saltiga Boat Braid, do you know what in comes in at.

Or if anyone else can recommend a fine diameter braid in the 60-70lb line class,

Its just I'll be fishing 300m+

Or 80lb if I can keep the diameter down.

The jigs direct guys in NZ told me that the AG taiwan jiggers use whiplash on their reels because it is pretty much the thinnest possible diametre to breaking strain out there, so they can pack bigger than usual line capacity onto relatively small reels. I have the diameters somewhere but its pretty easy to find, but its something ridiculous like whiplash 80lb being smaller than saltiga 40lb braid. maybe try it!

Don't know what the diameter of the boat braid is, but I can tell you that 80lb braid on a 16000FA stella spool I have about 330 yards of braid on there.

The Whiplash sounds like the goods, I'll look into it

Saltiga boat braid appears thicker than some other manufacturers' equivalent PE rating.

e.g. My SW20k with PE8 Ultra jigman took roughly 330m. With PE6 boat braid (0.44mm) I only got 370-380m (probably would have gotten on 400m with better line lay), still this is far from the PE6-500m listed on the spool (PE6 Avani Big One maybe...)

A member on another forum told me:

PE4 Boat braid = 0.36mm
PE5 Boat braid = 0.4mm

Hope this helps.

Shouldn't you have gotten the same amount of PE8 of Ultra Jigman and Boat Braid on, since the PE is a measurement of the line's diameter?

By the way, I have spooled a few 20000 with 80lb Boat Braid (PE6), and  have gotten between 580-620m on, depending on how tight I've spooled it. You were only able to put on 370-380m....are you sure you haven't spooled on with PE8 Boat Braid, which is 100lb?

Thats weird. Definately got Saltiga boat braid PE6.

From what I can tell PE8 ultra jigman is 0.47mm, only slightly thicker than PE6 boat braid 0.44mm, i thought this accounted for the similar capacities.

I think I need you to fill my spools!  :o

Is the Saltiga EXP spool the same size as the Saltige DF?

Size chart verse diameter in attached image
Breaking strains will vary depending on line used can vary quite considerably
A max power PE in #4 should be around 60lb.

Very weird, maybe I'm not filling my spools properly?
