Torsa width
April 23, 2010, 08:11:52 PM
Hi all,

Has anyone out there got a Torsa 16N or 16 and can tell me the width of the spool. I am about 300km's from the nearest tackle shop and still deciding on a reel to fish PE6 on my Smith WGJ-50H. I was set on the JM PE5 reel but just looking at other options aswell as its going to be more of a all round do everthing setup. Cheers Zamo

Hi Ben,

I just quickly measured a 16N that we have here in the shop, the spool width is 26mm. I dont have a regular 16 here in the shop to measure as well unfortunately.

I would be more inclined to fish PE5 over the 16N as you will get around 260-275m of it on there. Any higher and capacity starts to become an issue.

Other options would be something like a Saltiga Z40

If you would like any more information don't hesitate to ask.

Kind Regards
Tom

Torsas are also a bit heavy although the gears are so efficient they do mitigate a bit.
Ocea Jigger?(they now have a lever drag version out which is essentially a Talica with an extra bearing)
I have a 4000P and a 5000P and they are great reels.

Hi Sachin, I had the 4000P but sold it after very little use due to the large frame size and not being able to jig properly with it. I looked at the new LD Jigger online but am dissapointed by the width of the 4000 at 42mm and the 2000 doesn't have enough line cap or drag for the rod. Sort of got it down to either a Torsa 16 of JM PE5 spooled with PE 6. Would buy the Z40 if the drag was better, wonder if they are bringing out a new overhead series as well as spinning this year. Anyone heard any rumours?
