Ouch..!! There's a good reason why you should fish barbless hooks, and even more reason to have a few choice words to anyone that casts recklessly, one incident like this spoils the whole trip!

Yet more evidence for debarbed hooks. Carry a diamond file or heavy pliers at all times.

Ever tried to cut out a treble to get past the barbs? I did and taught me 2 things:

1/. Fishing knives can be sharp but because of what we use them for they are also very dirty. (would you eat with one...)  :(
2/. Human skin/flesh is surprisingly tough so I added a clean scalpel to the fishing kit  :)
Fishing is not life & death...its much more important than that!

Fished a small boat in April and Dave Foyle came up with the idea of rotation casting and keeping the popper OUTSIDE the boat at all times - bit awkward but safety comes first ...
